Our History
Founder Carroll Ray’s vision to create a fun and safe place for dogs to play and be cared for stemmed from her lifelong love of animals coupled with her joyful childhood. Growing up on Meadowlake Lane in Houston, Carroll treasures memories of carefree days playing with neighborhood friends. She hoped to create a place where dogs could feel that same joy and freedom, while simultaneously providing a needed service for pet parents. Her vision became a reality in June of 2009, after 5 years of research and development, when Meadowlake Pet Resort opened for business.
The opening of Meadowlake in June 2009, was a culmination of over five years of research, by Carroll Ray. Creating the most state-of-the-art facility, recruiting a caring and motivated staff, and developing top operational procedures to help insure the safety and comfort of all Meadowlake pet guests was her main priority. We offer a variety of services such as, boarding, daycare, grooming, and training. Sitting on four beautiful acres, this facility is a great place for your dog to enjoy. Along with all the spacious play yards, we have a splash pad to keep your dog cool and entertained. This also includes state-of-the-art security and fire systems, and a speaker system that plays soothing music for lodging guests.
Meadowlake Pet Resort’s Galleria location that opened in November 2018, is located at 6393 Richmond Avenue in the Galleria area. The facility is a convenient destination offering the same diverse menu of services including, boarding, dog daycare, and grooming. The location, which can accommodate 75 pets for daycare and nearly 150 for lodging, features amenities unique to the Galleria area destination. For example, all rooms are “suites” with glass fronts and families with multiple dogs are able to easily house pets together thanks to the adjoining room feature. The facility includes state-of-the-art security and fire systems, and a speaker system that plays soothing music for lodging guests.
Meet Our Team
Carroll Robertson Ray - Founder
When Carroll Ray opened the first Meadowlake facility in June 2009, it marked the realization of a dream five years in the making. With meticulous research guiding every decision, Ray set out to create the ultimate pet care destination. Her top priorities were assembling a compassionate and dedicated staff, implementing cutting-edge safety protocols, and outfitting the facility with state-of-the-art amenities to ensure maximum comfort for furry guests. And the name Meadowlake was a nod to Ray’s idyllic childhood street, bringing a sense of home to this innovative new venture. Through determination and care, Ray turned her vision into a welcoming refuge where pets could stay, play, and thrive.
Laura Koch - Executive Manager
Laura has been the Executive Manager at Meadowlake Pet Resort since its opening in 2009. She oversees both locations and over 120 staff members. She has had a passion for animals since she was very young and has held positions in animal shelters, pet stores and as a zookeeper. Having cared for animals from monkeys to sea lions to elephants, one of Laura’s biggest passions is helping others to develop a respect for all creatures and their place in our ecosystem. Laura shares her home with her husband, 2 children, 2 dogs, a tortoise, a lizard and a snake and spends her spare time volunteering with her deaf Great Dane at local hospitals and schools providing education and pet therapy
Dawn - General Manager 288
Dawn’s animal career started in November 2006 in Norfolk, Virginia. Her passion for animals started when she was a little girl. She currently helps with fostering dogs and providing them with love, care, and attention before going to their forever homes. Dawn moved to Texas in 2010 with her husband. Her family includes her husband Brian, son Corvin, and daughter Aspen. She currently has 6 dogs, 2 donkeys, 1 pig, a macaw, 5 goats, chickens, and ducks. Dawn has been at Meadowlake since May of 2021.
Angela- General Manager Galleria
Angela was born and raised in Houston, TX, and has been an animal lover her entire life. As a little girl, she was often followed home by a furry friend. Her career in pet care began in 2007 when she started as an activities counselor. She excelled in every department and eventually helped manage multiple facilities, becoming a successful dog trainer in the process. Angela is also a certified in pet first aid and CPR instructor. She has fostered many dogs in need and currently lives with her husband, Justin, and their nine dogs. Angela has been part of the Meadowlake team since September 2020.
