Hosting Thanksgiving this Year? Safety tips to keep your pet AND your guests safe
Follow these 4 tips to keep you, your guests and your pet’s Thanksgiving fun and safe:
- Practice your pet’s basic commands like sit, stay, and come. These commands can be a crucial tool to avoid jumping on or scratching your guests…or even bolting through the door.
- Release some of the excess energy in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and especially right before guests arrive. Take them for a walk, play fetch or send them to a local daycare. This will prevent them from jumping and being overly excited when guests walk in.
- Some pets do not do well being a part of the action. Send them to Meadowlake for overnight lodging. This option can ease their anxiety and give you the time you need to prepare for your guests.
- Make sure your pooch does not have easy access to all the yummy food. Using a “place” command or crating may be best during the meal, as some traditional thanksgiving food is toxic for dogs.
